Every May, students around the world spend two weeks taking rigorous Advanced Placement (AP) exams. These college-level exams correspond to coursework in 40 subjects, and colleges usually offer credit or placement for students receiving a 4 or 5 (though a 3 is considered “passing,” which some colleges honor). As a former AP Coordinator, I know that shortly after finishing these two-to-three-hour exams, students want to know when, exactly, their AP scores will come out. Typically, this happens in early to mid- July.

AP courses are either the bane or pride of every high schooler’s existence. While these college-level courses are certainly not easy, taking as many as possible (or their international equivalent, IB courses) to make a positive impression on admissions officers at highly selective colleges is essential. Students enrolled in AP classes this year will sit for exams starting this May and will receive their scores by July.
Until that fateful July day when high schoolers receive the scores that could play a large part in determining their college admissions prospects, we’re just left to wonder how scores will be distributed in 2025. Even Ivy Coach’s famously accurate crystal ball can’t render a prediction on that one! Like all AP exams, the AP World exam is administered by the College Board—the same organization that administers the SAT. All AP exams are scored on a scale of 1 (low) to 5 (high), and can be interpreted as follows:
5 = Extremely well qualified (College Course Grade Equivalent: A or A+)
4 = Well qualified (College Course Grade Equivalent: A-, B+, or B)
