Ive lived in or near Pittsburg all my life until last week I had never set foot in Small World Park. What a hidden Gem! Its like youve traveled back in time twenty years. My wife and I took our three children there. $20 total for admission and unlimited rides. It like Pixie Playland in the middle of Heather Farms. The place was clean as if they were expecting an inspection that day. We went during the week and it was not busy at all. The only criticism I have is that it was mostly ran by high school kids on summer vacation. They all had the typical "I dont know" face on. Other than that, it was purely spectacular.

I recently attended a birthday party here and I felt that the whole atmosphere specifically caters to their targeted ages. It was a great park for toddlers and even young children. My five and eight year olds bottle enjoyed themselves. Only part that I would advise is that the snack bars are very limited and the hot dogs did not look good.

Small World Park, Pittsburg is Perfect for Kids Under 8

Have you taken your little one to Small World Park in Pittsburg?

Small World Park in Pittsburg is like a smaller version of Children’s Fairyland in Oakland. Not as charming, but cheaper and less crowded.
One entrance fee gives you access to a couple of mini carnival rides – a spinning whale, a carousel, a train that runs around the park, a zipline, and a Ferris wheel. Plus you’ll find various playground structures, lots of green grass for picnics, and a pond where you can fish for crawdads. Bring your own hot dogs and poles if you are serious about fishing!

Small World Park is best for the under-8 crowd
. There are a few height restrictions, for example, you can’t be taller than 38 inches to ride Humphrey the Whale. We barely made the cutoff and it was my kids’ favorite. With no line, we rode it for a solid 10 minutes straight.
Parents are allowed on the carousel, Ferris wheel, and train – woo hoo!

I was worried the park would be hot, it was a whopping 90 degrees in Pittsburg the day we went, but honestly, there were so many trees I didn’t even notice the heat. The park

While most amusement parks definitely focus on appealing to children, they also feature thrill rides to make sure adults pass through the turnstiles too — not at Pittsburg’s Small World Park.

Similar to Children’s Fairyland at Oakland’s Lake Merritt and run by the city of Pittsburg’s Recreation Department, Small World Park features kid-friendly small-scale rides such as a rainbow-colored Ferris wheel, a balloon ride and a merry-go-round.

There’s a kid-friendly zip line for the daring as well as a small stationary river boat that invites exploration and, naturally, a train ride that circles the park. There’s even a whale ride paying homage to a whale that decided to swim up the Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta instead of out to sea in the 1980s, Humphrey the Humpback Whale.

For young readers, a permanent exhibit at Small World Park is the Pittsburg Library’s StoryWalk, featuring framed pages of popular children’s books along a path near the carousel. The story is updated three times a year.

Last year, Rafael Lopez, the author and illustrator of the book “We’ve Got the Whole World in our Hands,” spoke about his creative process at an event that starte
