What is the hardest board game in the world
What games do you love the most that are also the hardest to get to the table? Justin shares his picks!
Let’s go on a journey together!
Walking down into the basement, or through the curtains into the second bedroom—its role as a “bedroom” ended many years ago—you will find…
YOUR GAME COLLECTION
And then, buried somewhere behind the third Kallax, below your antique 1980s Milton Bradley “Gamemaster Series” collection, and just before you have to look away from the menacing death stare of your “shelf of shame”, you see it:
The game you absolutely love. The game you KNOW gives players a rich, possibly legendary gaming experience.
The game you struggle to ever get to the table.
Each time you are fortunate enough to even begin pitching your gaming friends on why this jewel in the Nile should hit the table tonight, you have to remove a full cake of dust from the top of the box. And that’s before you remember, mid-pitch, it will take 45 minutes to teach the game, or it features “take-that” gameplay with an audience that hates confrontation, or tearing down the game is only slightly quicker than running a marathon. (Not a 5K…a

It’s now been over 2 years since I last shared my Top 50 Games of All Time. And 2 human years equates to roughly 15 board game hobbyist years, so that means my list is very outdated! Just to give some perspective, since sharing my last Top Games of All Time list, I’ve added over 150 more games and removed over 50 games from my collection. I’ve had roughly 1000 more plays of board and card games in that time as well. 1000 plays will change a gamer, no doubt.

The Dark Souls tabletop game 'will be the hardest board game you have ever played'
Steamforged Games' official tabletop game based on Dark Souls will adopt the series' notorious level of difficulty, according to the board game maker. Steamforged said in an update, which provides new gameplay details on the board game, that Dark Souls "will be the hardest board game you have ever played."
"Designed from the ground up, the Dark Souls board game is a brutally hard exploration miniatures game for 1-4 players," the company said. "Prepare to die."
Steamforged says it's developing a "fast setup, long reveal" mechanic that will see the playable area expand as players explore the game board. To support its claim as the "hardest board game," Dark Souls will require "deep strategic play and clever management of stamina to survive."
It sounds like Steamforged is drawing upon all three Dark Souls games, including the recently released Dark Souls 3, in terms of its mechanics and enemies. The only confirmed characters coming in miniature form are the infamously difficult boss duo Dragon Slayer Ornstein and Executioner Smough, from the first Dark Souls.
