Why Universal Studios Hollywood Is Better Than Universal Orlando

Which Universal Park is better? Honestly it’s a hard decision to make but I am sharing some reason why Universal Studios Hollywood is better (even though its smaller) than Universal Orlando. And also why it’s not better, hint – Harry Potter at Universal Studios…

Just like the question with Disney Parks, everyone has an opinion on which Universal theme park is the best. West Coast parks are smaller but they are the original theme parks. There are pros and cons and no simple answer. I am sharing my opinion on why Universal Studios Hollywood is (and isn’t) better than Universal Orlando.

Why Universal Studios Hollywood Is Better than Universal Orlando

After visiting Universal Orlando a few times recently with my family, I was excited to head back to Universal Studios Hollywood so I could compare the two locations. I already knew the Hollywood park is much smaller having visiting it as a kid.

How big is Universal Studios?

Ok but really how much bigger is Universal Orlando compared to Universal Hollywood? I did a little research and found that the 3 separate theme parks in Florida

An incredibly large part of my childhood was spent thinking about Harry Potter. I was first introduced in 1999, when my fourth grade teacher read “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” aloud to us in class. She created distinct voices for each character as she went; to say it was magical would be an (applicable) understatement. It was a dream to take an entire Harry Potter vacation someday.

After that, I spent my summers counting down the days until the next book would be released. I saved up endless dollar coins with Sacagawea’s face on them to pay for them. Then, I’d hide under the blankets long after my mom thought I was asleep, transporting myself to Hogwarts. Though magic was subject at the forefront of each book, lessons on friendship, family and loyalty sucked me in.

I’d head to the midnight premieres of the last few movies rocking a USC scarf—Gryffindor colors, after all. Once the impressive 15 combined novels and films were all released, there was a sad moment: no more new Harry Potter. But Universal Studios changed that by opening two incredible theme parks dedicated to the lands, wizards and stories I’d loved for so long.

I’ll leave it up to Eileen t

Universal operates three theme parks in the U.S. — Universal Studios Hollywood in California and Universal Studios Florida and Universal’s Islands of Adventure in Florida. While there are certainly many similarities between the east and west coast experiences, there are also several clear-cut differences.

Meredith Wallace of Minnie Memories Travel, a travel advisor specializing in theme parks, says she usually explains the difference with three basic questions: Are roller coasters a must? You want to go to Orlando. Do you want to see active movie sets and maybe a star or two? You need to go to Hollywood. Are you a Harry Potter fan hoping to visit Hogwarts
and
Diagon Alley? You have to go to Orlando.

Dennis Quinn, vice president of destination sales for Universal Studios Hollywood, describes it this way:

“The biggest difference between Orlando and Hollywood is not necessarily the qualitative difference between the parks; it’s the fact that Orlando is a theme park family destination, whereas Hollywood is about an L.A. experience,” he says.

That L.A. experience is primarily based on the fact that the theme park is literally located in one of th
