Live coverage of IVF World Sprint Championship in Hilo
The International Va’a Federation (IVF) World Sprints is a prestigious international canoe racing event that takes place every two years. The World Sprints bring together paddlers from around the world to compete in various categories of outrigger canoe racing. Outrigger canoes, referred to as “va’a” in the context of Polynesian culture or wa’a in Hawaiian, are traditional watercraft with lateral support floats (outriggers) to enhance stability. The event is not only a platform for athletic competition but also a celebration of Polynesian and Pacific Islander culture, featuring traditional ceremonies, cultural performances, and demonstrations that showcase the heritage and history of outrigger canoes. The exhibition race at World Sprints Hilo 2024 also provides individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD) a chance to participate alongside international paddlers, offering them a platform to showcase their abilities while honoring the spirit of inclusivity deeply rooted in the traditions of the Hawaiian Islands. Volunteers are also needed: 2024 Hilo World Sprints Voluteer
